From responsible resort practices and locally inspired dining to conservation partnerships and opportunities to give back, we invite our guests to travel with care and create a deeper connection to the people and place that make Hawaiʻi special.
Pioneering Sustainable Beauty in Hawaiʻi
SpaHalekulani is proud to be the first spa in Hawaiʻi to partner with Green Circle Salons, extending our commitment to wellbeing beyond our guests to the environment we share.
- Up to 95% of salon waste can be recovered through the Green Circle program
- Hair, metals, plastics, color materials and other salon waste are separated for responsible recovery
- Recovered materials are repurposed rather than sent to landfill
Additional Efforts
- Paperless transactions reduce paper consumption
- Weightless Pedicures require little to no water
- SpaHalekulani uses 100% essential oils in place of fragrance oils
- Massage oils and body scrubs are farmed and packaged in Hawaiʻi, supporting local sourcing and reducing transportation-related emissions
- The Spa Boutique features Made in Hawaiʻi products, including Sea Salts of Hawaiʻi Deep Ocean Magnesium, supporting local businesses committed to environmental stewardship
- Post-treatment tea service features locally grown herbal teas
Solid Waste Reduction & Recycling
- Bulk-dispensed bath amenities reduce individual packaging, with less commonly used amenities available upon request
- Reusable wooden key cards replace traditional plastic room keys
- Bottles, cans and other materials are separated for recycling throughout the property
- Reusable cloth laundry bags are provided in place of plastic
- Usable linens, uniforms and amenities are donated to local organizations rather than discarded
- Cloth napkins and refillable containers are used in place of disposable alternatives
- Halepuna works with vendors to minimize packaging and prioritize reusable or recyclable options
- Styrofoam is not purchased, and incoming packing materials are reused whenever possible
Responsible Resort Practices
- Water refill stations are available at the pool and around the property
- Laundry and Housekeeping incorporate biodegradable products and reusable alternatives where possible
- Laundry detergents with little or no phosphates and environmentally responsible garment-cleaning methods help reduce environmental impact
- Cleaning products, paints, solvents and pest-control products are evaluated with an emphasis on safer alternatives
- Integrated pest management practices help reduce reliance on chemical pesticides
- Garbage liners made with recycled plastic help reduce the need for newly produced plastic.
Energy Efficiency
Occupancy sensors are installed to control Air-conditioning and lighting systems for the property
ENERGY STAR equipment is used whenever possible
LED and other energy-efficient lighting systems are used to further reduce energy consumption.
Water Conservation
Low-flow showerheads in all guest rooms help conserve water without compromising comfort.
Our optional linen program allows guests to reduce laundering during their stay.
Weightless Pedicures at SpaHalekulani require little to no water.
Behind the scenes, water-saving measures include high-efficiency fixtures and routine leak monitoring.
Reef-safe sunscreen is provided at the pool, with compostable containers used for distribution.
Native Hawaiian and drought-tolerant plants are incorporated throughout the property landscape, supporting conservation while reducing water needs.
Halepuna’s gardens celebrate plants with ecological and cultural significance, connecting guests to Hawaiʻi’s living landscape.

Featured at our pool and Spa Boutique, Project Reef creates reef-conscious sun care while supporting ocean restoration, beach cleanups and watershed conservation. With every purchase, the company funds the removal of one pound of ocean-bound plastic.
Green Circle Salons
Green Circle Salons helps beauty and wellness businesses recover and repurpose up to 95% of their beauty waste, diverting hair, foils, color materials and other salon waste from landfills and waterways.
Sea Salts of Hawaii
Harnessing pure deep ocean water off the Kona Coast, Sea Salts of Hawaiʻi creates mineral-rich products using natural solar evaporation while giving 1% of sales to support the Papahānaumokuākea Marine Debris Project.
