Sustainability & Community
Halepuna Waikiki strives to support the local community through its arts, culture, and sustainability initiatives.
Similar to the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s Malama Hawaii program, which provides various activities for mindful guests to help preserve our natural resources, learn about our culture, and engage with the local communities, Halekulani is constantly finding ways to keep our guests engaged in “traveling pono” or “traveling with care.”
Our corporate sponsorship with the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative allows guests to restore the integrity and biodiversity of Hawaii’s endemic forests. Legacy Trees can be given to honor an individual, commemorate an event, or memorialize a loved one. Every tree dedication is a living legacy, and a gift which will grow grander year after year. With each purchase from our signature Halepuna logo collection, we donate a portion of the proceeds toward supporting HLRI’s mission of restoring the biodiversity and integrity of Hawaii’s endemic forests.
Halepuna Access Program
The Halepuna Access program allows ours guests access to cultural venues such as the Bishop Museum and Honolulu Museum of Art to learn more about Hawaii’s rich history and culture.
SpaHalekulani is certified as a Green Circle Salon organization
SpaHalekulani was the first spa in Hawaii to be part of the Green Circle Salon organization which reuses, repurposes, and recycles all of its waste. SpaHalekulani is proud to be recognized by Green Circle Salons, the world’s first, and North America’s only, certified sustainable salon solution to recover and repurpose beauty waste. In addition to 95% of the waste being recovered from our salon visits, the services performed inside are all carbon offset making SpaHalekulani Carbon Neutral Certified.
Zero Waste to Landfill Certified from Carbon Trust
Zero waste to landfill means that no non-hazardous waste is sent to the landfill or for incineration without energy recovery. This is important because waste is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and global resource depletion.
B-Corp Certification
Green Circle Salons became a certified B-Corp in 2019, which means that they are committed to balancing purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions in five Impact Areas: Environment, Customers, Community, Employees, and Governance.
